A lovely day with Sandy
Whenever it was, we walked the High Line and had lunch at a cute hole in the wall which actually has a very nice restaurant right next to it.

And more recently visited Whitney Museum, a disappointment, the golden toilet we did not sit on, did some caching and went for drinks at Pier 66

first week of Nov.
Exciting things happened this week
Thursday met with Jay and Kirsten at their ap, it was his birthday, then had lunch, with a bottle of wine, at an Afghan rest around the corner. Rice with orange peel, delicious.
then went with Kirsten see a Magritte exhibit.
On Friday, Nov. 8th, Stuart and I went to see a Chamber Opera called THE SATIN CLOAK
"The Satin Cloak" is a re-telling, by Martin Halpern, of a parable that centers around four characters: the humble cobbler Tameem; his devoted wife Akara; his brilliant friend Aruhm, and a Messenger who comes to announce that the Sovereign of the land has appointed Tameem governor of his province. Though perplexed by this, Tameem, with Akara's constant aid, manages to govern with great virtue for seven years, though always nagged by doubts about the source of his appointment. Meanwhile, Aruhm has gone on a quest to discover that source. After many ordeals he finally returns, and what he reveals before dying forces Tameem to re-define, for himself and his subjects, the true meaning of virtue in a world where nothing is certain.
afterwards we went to a Vietnamese restaurant called Peking Roast Duck on 858 8th Ave, where the dumplings were no good but my curry delicious.
And on Sunday, Nov. 10th I went to a place called Symphony Space and saw Murakami Music: Stories of Loss and Nostalgia. Readings of excerpts of some of his books, accompanied mainly by piano but there was also a bass and a saxophone. Totally cool.

Historic Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House.

A visit to the Historic Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House.
The Customs House is today the Museum of the American Indian but we were more interested in the original building, built between 1902 and 1907.
There are guided visits every day at 1pm. The day we went, there was a sign, NO VISITS. However, a very nice and extremely knowledgeable gentleman offered to give the tour, being that the usual guide was sick.
The tour is well worth taking, it was very interesting, covering the building and architecture, the workings of customs in the long ago days, different types of marble, reception room and office for the Customs official, the New York branch of the National Archives, lavish sculptures, paintings, and decorations by well-known artists of the time and much more.

We also visited the New York branch of the National Archives and found the following fascinating items:

Asking for a good place for lunch in the neighborhood we were directed to Stone Str. and what a discovery that was. Tables on the street from a variety of different restaurants. Should be great for happy hour.
The place we went to was Le Financier, very good.

It feels (and tastes) as if you went to heaven on 189 Spring Street

But I had actually gone there for the CRONUT, famous fusion of doughnut and croissant. Unfortunately when I got there, around 10am I was told that they had sold out by 8:20. A line apparently forms at 7am, don't think I am going to make it.
